Arcadia man dies in U.S. 30 crash

An 83-year-old Arcadia man died Monday in a crash west of Carroll on U.S. Highway 30, according to a Carroll County Sheriff’s report.
Ivan A. Mader was westbound just west of Hawthorne Avenue, about 3 1/2 miles west of Carroll, at about 4:50 p.m. when his car crossed the roadway’s center, went into the south ditch, struck a utility pole, went over a creek and flipped end-over-end.
The engine in his 2004 Ford Focus fell from the vehicle after it went airborne over the creek.
Mader was taken by ambulance to St. Anthony Regional Hospital where he died.
It’s unclear what caused the crash.
