There have been just three reports of window shootings in Carroll in the past two weeks as police officers continue their search for a perpetrator.
The total number of BB-gun shootings stands at 53 since mid-July.
The number of reports had increased precipitously each month, doubling from two to four to eight to October’s 17. There were 21 in November.
But so far — a third of the way through December — there’s been just one report. It was a pickup truck window in the 500 block of North Main Street.
Police believe that someone has been using a compressed-air-powered BB gun to shoot vehicle and building windows. The shattered windows have more damage than what a pump gun would do.
No one has reported that they witnessed a shooting. The weapons don’t make a loud bang like gunpowder but rather a brief release of air.
“Still working leads, but no arrests yet,” Police Chief Brad Burke said.
The shootings have been seemingly random, aside from Central Church’s youth club being hit twice, along with the church pastor’s vehicle that was parked at his house.
Central has offered a $1,500 reward for information that leads to an arrest. The police have offered $500.
