Carroll police officers arrested or cited about 30 people over the long holiday weekend for crimes that ranged from shoplifting to underage drinking to domestic abuse, according to police reports.
They also investigated three reported restaurant break-ins at Subway, Happy House Buffet and Taco John’s that happened overnight Friday in which someone caused an estimated $900 worth of damage and stole about $2,800.
Here’s the day-to-day breakdown of the arrests and citations issued from Thursday through Sunday in Carroll:
— Thursday: Albert J. Wolfe, 20, of Carroll, was arrested at his apartment in the 900 block of North East Street for interference with official acts, hosting an underage alcohol party, disorderly house and providing a false birth date.
— Friday: Amanda R. Rotert, 24, of Carroll, was arrested for allegedly stealing grocery items worth $63.77 from Hy-Vee Food Store about 9 a.m.
Glenn E. Summers Jr., 30, of Carroll, was arrested for allegedly stealing screw extractors worth $5.54 from Bomgaars about 10 a.m.
— Saturday: Nineteen people ranging in age from 18 to 20 were cited for underage possession of alcohol in the 800 block of West Sixth Street about 12:20 a.m. after someone reported an underage drinking party.
They were: Alex C. Bruch, 18, Shawn P. Higgins, 20, and Taylor S. Collison, 19, of Arcadia; Mikayla A. Nieland, 18, of Auburn; Anthony J. Adams, 19, of Breda;  Jacob T. Bachman, 20, Jay K. Bauman, 20, Tyler J. Heuton, 19, Grant E. Horbach, 19, Trevin J. Jorgensen, 18, Joshua M. Sapp, 19, Shane M. Sapp, 20, Joel M. Sibbel, 20, Michael S. Strautman, 19, Tanner C. Vonnahme, 20, Collin J. Wernimont, 18, and Avery M. Wittrock, 19, of Carroll; Zachary T. Trecker, 20, of Manning; and Kelsey L. Pottebaum, 19, of Templeton.
Nicholas A. Balderas, 20, of Carroll, was arrested for domestic abuse assault, simple assault and interference with official acts about 2:48 a.m. at an apartment in the 500 block of East 18th Street. He allegedly punched his girlfriend in the face and fought with officers as they tried to arrest him, police said. Balderas’ alleged victims were a 21-year-old Carroll woman and a 48-year-old Bagley man.
— Sunday: Four people were arrested for possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia after officers searched an apartment in the 900 block of North East Street with a warrant about 9:45 p.m.
They were: Louis F. Felton, 29, Sarah M. Monio, 24, Amy J. Hunter, 34, and Phillip K. Alley, 21, of Carroll.
Also on Thursday, a 50-year-old Vail man died in a head-on crash just west of Vail, according to an Iowa State Patrol report.
Jeffrey A. Studt was southbound on 330th Street about a half mile south of J Avenue when his car crested a hill and struck a northbound car driven by Matthew L. Johnson, 30, of Manilla.
Studt did not wear a seatbelt and died because of the crash. Johnson, his passenger Becky A. Weller, 27, of Manilla, and Studt’s passenger Christina M. Studt, 42, were injured and taken to Crawford County Memorial Hospital.
Studt was among at least six people who died in separate crashes in various parts of Iowa from Wednesday to Sunday, according to crash reports.
