Officials: Farm deaths were homicides
March 13, 2014
The Monday deaths of a Maple River man and his farmhand were homicides, the state Division of Criminal Investigation confirmed this morning.
Investigators were set to release further information about the incident - which killed Marvin Huelsing, 79, and the person he hired to help on his small farm southeast of Deloit - at a 1 p.m. press conference today in Denison.
Crawford County Sheriff Jim Steinkuehler said this morning that there has been significant progress in the case, but he declined to say whether anyone has been arrested for the alleged crimes.
The victims went to the farm at 1872 Milford Road on Monday for routine chores. Someone later reported a fire that engulfed a mobile home and pickup truck there about 12:45 p.m.
Two bodies were found in a fire. Investigators sought two men who were seen in a pickup truck nearby.
