A 65-year-old Odebolt woman died Saturday morning when the driver of a semitrailer truck attempted to pass a car in heavy fog and collided head-on with a pickup truck west of Lake View.
Sharon Irene Rohlf was a passenger in the eastbound pickup truck about 8:24 a.m. on Iowa Highway 175 when the westbound semitrailer truck driven by Ivan Milosevic, 24, of Chicago, attempted the pass, according to a Sac County Sheriff’s crash report.
“At the time of the crash, visibility was reported as being near zero because of fog,” the report said.
Milosevic’s truck struck Rohlf’s truck and killed her. Rohlf’s husband, Gary Wayne Rohlf, 64, of Odebolt, who drove their truck, was taken to a Sioux City hospital with unspecified critical injuries.
Milosevic and his passenger, Kiwan AlDaloi, 27, of Allen, Texas, were not seriously injured.
After the initial crash, another car driven by Jeanette Fertig, 61, of Odebolt, struck the back of the Rohlfs’ pickup truck. Fertig suffered unspecified minor injuries, but her passenger, Barb Scott, 73, of Odebolt, was critically injured and taken to a Sioux City hospital.
The driver of the car the semitrailer truck attempted to pass, Dale Daisy, 77, of Lake City, was not injured.
Milosevic has not yet been cited for a traffic violation, according to online court records.
