A man went into an elderly woman's house last week in Breda while she was asleep and tried to have sex with her.

The victim, a 93-year-old woman, reported that the man woke her in her bed just before midnight on May 17 and demanded sex, said Chief Deputy Ken Pingrey, of the Carroll County Sheriff's office.

"He started to crawl into the bed, and she fought him off," Pingrey said.

The woman then tried to call 911 on her cellphone, but the intruder, who wore pantyhose on his head to disguise his face, grabbed the phone and threw it, which broke the phone.

He then fled, Pingrey said, and the woman used a telephone to call for help.

The man was gone by the time Carroll, Crawford and Sac County sheriffs' deputies and Carroll police officers arrived, but Pingrey said investigators have identified a suspect.

It's unclear when criminal charges might be filed for the crime.

The woman was not hurt. The man did not use a weapon.

The Daily Times Herald is withholding the woman's name and address to protect her identity. The newspaper does not identify victims of sexual assaults without their permission.
