Jalapeno poppers will have your next party guests going wild for the irresistible combination of jalapenos, bacon and cream cheese all wrapped up into one bite. If the thought of spicy jalapenos scares you, be sure to scrape out all the seeds and look for peppers with a round end. Pointed peppers tend to contain more heat.


Jalapeno Popper Wonton Cups

Load up crispy wonton cups with cream cheese, bacon, diced jalapenos, Cheddar cheese, and sour cream. Janette Volz of Pleasant Hill (formerly of Carroll) recently made this appetizer for a party and a committee meeting and gave it two thumbs-up.


12 wonton wrappers

4 oz cream cheese, softened

1/2 cup sour cream

12 oz bacon, cooked and crumbled (reserve 2 tablespoons)

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (reserve 2 tablespoons)

3-4 jalapeños, seeded and chopped (if you prefer more spice, do not remove all the seeds)


Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Spray a muffin pan with cooking spray.

Place one wonton wrapper in each muffin cup; bake 8 minutes or until lightly browned.

Remove from oven and cool slightly.

In a medium-sized mixing bowl, stir together cream cheese, sour cream, bacon, cheddar cheese, and chopped jalapeños.

Spoon filling into wonton cups, then sprinkle with reserved bacon and cheese.

Return to oven and bake for an additional 8-10 minutes, until wontons are golden brown and cheese is melted.


Bacon Wrapped Jalapeno Poppers

Who knew three ingredients could make such a delectable combination? Jalapenos and cream cheese wrapped in bacon are a perfect party food to pop in your mouth. These are guaranteed to be the first appetizer gobbled up from the table.


12 medium jalapeno peppers, cut in half lengthwise with seeds removed

1 (8 oz) pkg cream cheese, softened

1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese (optional)

12 slices bacon, cut in half


Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Fill cleaned jalapeno half with cream cheese (or cream cheese and cheddar mixture). Be careful not to overfill as it will ooze out of the jalapenos as they bake.

Wrap each stuffed jalapeno half tightly with a half piece of bacon. Arrange on a rimmed baking sheet and bake until the bacon is cooked through and crispy, about 15 minutes.

Remove from the oven and allow to cool about 5 minutes before serving.


Note: If you are taking these to a party or tailgate you can layer them in a crock pot and set the crock pot to low.
