A 29-year-old Kentucky woman died Monday morning when she failed to stop her car at a stop sign on the east edge of Carroll and struck a semitrailer truck, according to an Iowa State Patrol crash report.

Tia Monique Newsome was eastbound on East 18th Street about 11:45 a.m. when she went past a stop sign at the street’s intersection with Noble Avenue and struck the passenger side of a southbound truck driven by Cody Michael Farrell, 24, of Glidden.

Newsome’s 2007 Dodge Caliber went into a ditch just southwest of the intersection, and apparent items from her car were strewn about. Farrell kept control of the truck and stopped on the roadway’s shoulder.

Farrell was not injured but Newsome died in the crash.
