A 58-year-old man died yesterday after being swept into the corn in a grain bin, according to a news release from the Sac County Sheriff’s Office.

Garry Alan Leonard of Lake View entered a partially filled grain bin yesterday to break up clotted corn as he was loading it onto a grain trailer but then was pulled into the corn and could not escape. Someone working with Leonard tried to free him but was unsuccessful, according to the release.

The Sac City Fire Department and Sac County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene at about 3:40 p.m. and located and removed Leonard from the bin about 45 minutes later. Leonard was later pronounced dead by the medical examiner in Sac County.
