Eifler plans June decision on council bid
May 16, 2013
The Carroll City Council's longest-serving member says he's undecided about a re-election bid.
Four-term Councilman Mike Eifler, first elected to the 3rd Ward seat in 1997, says he plans to make a decision within weeks.
"I haven't decided yet," Eifler said. "I'm probably going to make a decision by June 1."
Eifler, 58, said he wants to make the call soon in the event others are interested in seeking the office - or an at-large seat being vacated by Councilman Jeff Scharfenkamp.
On Friday, Eifler celebrated his 30-year anniversary with Pella Corp. in Carroll. He works in the recovery department associated with the production process.
A resident of 921 N. Main Street, Eifler and his wife, Mindy, have two grown daughters, Stephanie, an attorney in Des Moines, and Sammi, a teacher in Coon Rapids.
Mike Eifler is a 1973 graduate of Kuemper Catholic High School. He attended Mankato State University (now Minnesota State).
Eilfer has served with five mayors - Adam Schweers, Jim Pedelty, Dr. Robert Christensen, Ed Smith and Tom Gronstal.
The filing period for the November city elections begins Aug. 26 and closes Sept. 19. Candidates can take out papers at city hall or online through the Iowa Secretary of State's Office - sos.iowa.gov
