A 52-year-old Coon Rapids woman died Sunday night when she apparently parked her car on a railway crossing near Grand Junction and was struck by a train.

Kristina Becker-Duroe was southbound on X Avenue about 9:53 p.m. about two miles east of Grand Junction when she drove around a railway crossing safety gate and stopped on the train tracks, Greene County Sheriff Steve Haupert said.

Becker-Duroe died when her car was struck and pushed about a quarter mile on the train tracks, according to the Iowa State Patrol.

Union Pacific Railroad employees reportedly saw the woman park her Mercury Sable on the tracks just north of U.S. Highway 30 but were unable to avert a collision.

Becker-Duroe was alone in the vehicle and was found dead when emergency responders arrived, Haupert said.

He said investigators will wait to rule whether the incident was a suicide.
