Carroll Public Library Director Kelly Fischbach has accepted a middle school position in Missouri, in the Ozarks region, and plans to move from Carroll in mid-July.

Fischbach's husband, Max, will retire from the Carroll Community School District as at-risk coordinator at the end of the school year.

The couple's decision to move, Kelly Fischbach said, is largely based on the location of the school - School of the Osage in Osage Beach, Mo. - to two of the Fischbachs' three daughters.

Lindsey, 29, is a pharmacist in Liberty, Mo., who will be getting married this summer. Jayna, 27, is an occupational therapist in Springfield, Mo. A third daughter, Natalie, 22, is pursuing an acting career in Hollywood, Calif. All are Carroll High School alums. Max's mother lives in Bella Vista, Ark., about a three-hour drive from Osage Beach.

"I think it's the right time for my husband and I to be making a change," Fischbach said. "I'm 55 years old, and somebody still wants to hire me to teach school. And we're ready to try something new."

Fischbach, who will be a middle school librarian in Osage Beach, said it makes sense to move to that community as it is close to a lake and near many golf courses - two key factors in the Fischbachs' retirement planning.

Max Fischbach is discussing several coaching opportunities in the region. He recently coached the CHS girls golf team and assisted with the girls basketball program.

Kelly Fischbach started as Carroll Public Library director in August 2008. In the summer of 2009, the library patronage stood at 378 people a day. Daily traffic increased to 487 people a day in the summer of 2013.

Kelly Fischbach, a native of Rockwell City, served as the Carroll High School media specialist from 1997 to 2008.

"This has been home for 17 years," Fischbach said. "It's a tough decision. Carroll is a fantastic place to raise a family."

Prior to moving to Carroll, Kelly Fischbach held library and teaching positions in Norwalk, Winterset, North Fayette and Grand Junction.

The nine-member Carroll Library Board of Trustees will be charged with hiring a new library director.

Fischbach's salary as library director is $68,500 annually.
