Carroll County posted a 2.7 percent unemployment rate for the month of October - the fourth lowest in Iowa for that period.

Only Lyon County (2 percent), Sioux County (2.5 percent) and Shelby County (2.4 percent) recorded lower rates of unemployment, according to Iowa Workforce Development.

The state's unemployment rate stood at 4.6 percent in October with the national rate at 7.3 percent.

Carroll County's unemployment rate was down from 3.3 percent in October 2012.

For this past October, the unemployment rates for other surrounding counties were as follows: Audubon, 3.8 percent; Calhoun, 3.6 percent; Crawford, 3.2 percent; Greene, 3.8 percent; Guthrie, 3.6 percent; and Sac, 3.2 percent.

Lee County, in the far southeast corner of Iowa, had the highest unemployment rate in October at 6.4 percent.
