The Big Bluestem Audubon Society will host a field trip to Dunbar Slough Wildlife Management Area Saturday. The event is free and open to the public.

Matt Wetrich, Carroll County naturalist and Big Bluestem Audubon Society board member, will guide attendees through Greene County's Dunbar Slough, what has become something of a "home patch" for him.

Wetrich lives in Greene County, did a “Greene County Big Year” in 2018 and is doing another in 2019, so he has spent many hours at Dunbar Slough, has found many great birds there and is well acquainted with birding at Dunbar Slough.

Spring migration is underway and Dunbar Slough is a prime spot to witness it. Target birds will include waterfowl, shorebirds, sparrows, raptors — and the group hopes to find Smith's longspurs.

Those who wish to join should meet the group at Casey's General Store in Scranton, located at 900 Locust St., by 8 a.m. Saturday.
