Carroll prepares to host 7th annual HOOP IT UP
The Carroll Chamber of Commerce hosted 59 teams last year at the Hoop It Up youth basketball tournament and is hoping for even a larger turnout this year.
Deadline to register for this year's seventh annual tournament is Friday, Feb. 8. Divisions playing include boys grade 4-9 and girls grades 6-8. Games will be played at eight sites Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 23 and 24.
Hoop It Up committee members (from left) Jen Mosman, Travis Osterlund, Sue Schrad, John Perrin, KIm Hackett and Aaron Juergens are finalizing details for the seventh annual tournament that will be held Feb. 23 and 24 in Carroll. Registration deadline for the both boys and girls divisions is open until Feb. 8.
Two certified officials referee each game, all players receive a commemorative T-shirt, and players on all first- and second-place teams receive awards.
The Carroll Chamber's Hoop It Up Committee consists of tournament director Kurt Baumhover, committee chairman John Perrin, Troy Auen, Tom Duff, Doug Gifford, Kim Hackett, Dave Holdsworth, Aaron Juergens, Jen Mosman, Travis Osterlund, Amy Ross, Scott Tigges and Pat Venteicher.
Chamber Board member and committee chairman Perrin said, "We continue to have great teams involved, and this should be a great tournament. I look forward to showcasing the community to visitors from out of town and boosting Carroll's economy that weekend."
Carroll Chamber program director Sue Schrad said, "The tournament committee has worked hard organizing and scheduling the tournament. We also enlisted the help of clubs and organizations for the concession stands. The high school booster clubs will handle the admission stands. We are very appreciative of both school systems and the Rec Center for their cooperation at each tournament site. This tournament brings lots of people into Carroll who will be exposed to the community and enjoy the weekend full of fun. Organizations and businesses all benefit from the group effort."
The general public can watch plenty of good basketball in Carroll that weekend. Game schedules and locations will appear on the Chamber website at www.carrolliowa.com a few days before the tournament.
