A 39-year-old Carroll man accused of having sexual contact with a 12- or 13-year-old child will plead guilty to felony sex abuse.

Michael James Goodwin is set to plead guilty and be sentenced in October, court records show. He faces up to 10 years in prison.

Goodwin was accused of six crimes with the child at his former residence between 2012 and 2014, with a total possible punishment of 60 years in prison. His trial had been set for August.

Someone reported the incidents in January.

Goodwin was arrested Feb. 16 and posted a $5,000 bond the next day to be released from jail. He told the Daily Times Herald at the time: “It was a big accident, more or less, but they had to charge me with something.”

He explained away the accusations with a story about roughhousing with the child. Goodwin said his hand accidentally made the inappropriate contact when the child rolled over onto it.

“God’s going to be in control right now, and he’s going to get ’er done,” Goodwin told the Times Herald in February.

Goodwin’s plea and sentencing hearing is set for Oct. 2.
