Dunkin’ Donuts in Carroll closed its doors for good on Thursday. Workers take the “Donuts” sign down from the side of the building. Owner Drew Cownie cited a lack of traffic to the restaurant as one reason for closing. The coffee and doughnut shop opened just west of Kmart in June of 2015.

Dunkin’ Donuts in Carroll served its final customers on Wednesday.

The coffee and doughnut shop opened in June 2015, but owner Drew Cownie said there wasn’t enough business to continue operations.

“There wasn’t enough traffic to support the business,” Cownie said. “It’s a sad day for all of us.”

Cownie said he had about 15 employees and he wished them the best of luck in their future endeavors.

Dunkin’ Donuts, a member of the Carroll Chamber of Commerce, had plenty of competition in Carroll for people’s coffee, breakfast and pastry needs.

McDonald’s, Burger King, Casey’s, Family Table, Queen Beans, Mac’s Corner Cafe and others are all competing for customers.

It’s unknown if the building — located west of Kmart and south of Hy-Vee — will be occupied in the near future.
