Toni Jean was born July 31, 1971, to Larry and Sue Kruthoff. She was raised in Lake City and was a graduate of the Class of 1989. Following in her parents' footsteps, she attended the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy. Toni returned to western Iowa and achieved her goal of pharmacy ownership by purchasing Sac City Drug. She later expanded the pharmacy by adding a custom compounding lab to better serve her community. Because she faced firsthand the struggles of battling her own illness, she always knew just what to say to help her patients through their toughest times.
Toni married Steve Shea on July 4, 2011. They made a home together in Sac City with their children Kirby, Steven Jr. and Amanda. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Toni loved to dress in bold colors, wear stylish jewelry and sport the latest nail fashions. She cheered on her Iowa Hawkeyes and shared the family passion for baseball, visiting Major League parks whenever possible. She enjoyed traveling and loved her cats. She and Steve enjoyed annual trips to Arizona to watch spring training games. Throughout the seasons, they followed favorite teams and players.
Toni's spirit never wore down. During her last days, she could be seen cheering her visitors, awarding double thumbs-up, and flashing her million-dollar smile. She cherished her time with her family.
Toni is survived by her husband Steve; their children: Kirby Nieland, Steven Shea Jr. and Amanda Shea; father and stepmother Larry (Linda) Kruthoff; sister Kelli Kruthoff; stepsisters Linn Block and Amy Taylor; stepbrother Mike Dorman; grandmother Wilma Kruthoff; grandparents Wayne and Maryl Glasnapp; and cat companion Sam who rarely left her side.
She was preceded in death by her mother Sue Kruthoff and grandfather Harold Kruthoff.
