Sarah Joy Wegner, 50, died Saturday, March 1, 2014, at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison.

Funeral was Thursday, March 6, at Huebner Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa, with the Rev. Kenneth Ferguson officiating. Music selections "God Only Cries" by Diamond Rio, "Amazing Grace" by Alan Jackson, "On Eagles' Wings" by Josh Groban and "Drink a Beer" by Luke Bryan were played. Casket bearers were Brice Shrimpton, Rod Christensen, Tanner Powers, Arlen Lueders, Todd Harlow and Jason Logan. The family invited everyone to the American Legion Hall in Arcadia for fellowship and lunch provided by Dean's Catering.

Sarah was born Aug. 23, 1963, in Minneapolis, Minn., a daughter of Alfred and Sally Barrier Dirks. She received her education in the Woodbine Community Schools, graduating with the Class of 1983. While in high school she was on the drill team and was the wrestling team manger. After completing her education she was employed at Mutual of Omaha. In May 1985, she married Joe Wegner. The couple made their home in rural Schleswig and were blessed with the birth of two children. She later moved to Arcadia and was engaged to be married to Steve.

She was a loving and caring person who loved holidays, especially Christmas. She was a fan of the Minnesota Vikings. She enjoyed stock car racing and watching Steve stockcar race and keeping him in line. She loved her cats, grilling, talking to friends on the phone and socializing with family and friends. Sarah was very forthright and had an infectious laugh. She just became a grandmother and was very proud of her family and being a grandmother.

Sarah was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include: her fiancé, Steve; one son: Benjamin and his special friend, Megan; one daughter: Kelsey and her husband, Jason; two step-children: Joshua; and Brandi and her special friend, Brice; three grandchildren; two brothers: Mark; and Joel and his wife, Kathy; many other relatives and friends.
