Sister Ricarda Eich, OSF, 99, of Clare House in Dubuque, died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012.

Wake service was Friday, Aug. 3, and funeral service was Saturday, Aug. 4, at Mount St. Francis Chapel. Burial was at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Dubuque.

A daughter of Charles and Anna (Reinart) Eich, she was born September 1912 in Halbur.

On Jan. 28, 1932, she entered the sisters of St. Francis and was perpetually professed on Aug. 12, 1937.

Sister Ricarda served as a teacher and principal at Iowa schools in Ossian, Staceyville, Sioux City and Waterloo and Midlothian, Ill.

After 25 years as an educator, she became the executive director of the St. Vincent de Paul Child Development Center in Portland, Ore.

Sister Ricarda retired in 1988 to Mount St. Francis where she continued to volunteer and live an active life until her death.

Survivors include her sister Stacey Schenkelberg of Carroll, Kay Loughran of Breda and Millie Sporrer of Manning, many nieces and nephews, and her Franciscan Sisters with whom she shared 79 years of her life.

Sister Ricarda was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers: Alvin, Ray and Herb Eich; and five sisters: Loretta Eich, Evelyn Langel, Lucy Iremeir, Helen Eischeid and Anna in infancy.
