Rose Anna (Klahs) Fiedler, 102, of Newell, Iowa, and formerly of Scranton, Iowa, died Monday, May 7, 2018, at the Good Samaritan Society of Newell.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of arrangements.

Rose “Rosella” Anna (Klahs) Fiedler was born Jan. 17, 1916, a daughter of Nicholas J. Klahs and Catharine M. (Lappe) Klahs. She grew up on a farm near Carroll, Iowa, with her brothers and sisters. She was baptized and confirmed in the SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Carroll.

Rose graduated from eighth grade at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic School in 1930 and graduated from high school in Carroll in 1934. After graduation Rose worked at the hospital in Carroll and also worked as a waitress until she was married.

Rose married Elmer J. Fiedler on Nov. 21, 1940, at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Carroll. Rose and her husband moved to the farm near Scranton, Iowa, and farmed together as a team. Together, they believed in hard work and doing things the natural way. The farm has been and still remains an organic farm. Rose was an avid gardener and loved dancing. Rose lost her dear husband to a farm accident in 1995. Rose was the last remaining member of her generation of the Klahs family.

Rose is survived by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Nicholas and Catharine Klahs; brothers: Joseph (Minnie and Grace) Klahs and Elmer (Myra) Klahs; and sisters: Marie (Jack) Kennar, Clara (Ray) Henkenius and Leona (Fritz) Hager.
