Patricia Lea, daughter of Donald James and Belva (Hart) Smith was born March 14, 1925, at Clinton, Iowa. Her family moved to Carroll where her father managed the Field Theater. Pat attended school for one year before the family moved to Florida. They then moved to Illinois where she graduated from Petersburg Harris High School in 1942. Pat attended MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Ill., for one year.

On June 4, 1946, Patricia married Bernard Hill at Davenport. The couple made their home in Peoria, Ill., and in 1955 moved to St. Paul, Minn. While in St. Paul, Pat worked as a secretary at the St. Paul Pioneer Press newspaper and later worked as assistant to the president of the 3M Corp. Pat and Bernard retired from 3M in 1989.

Upon their retirement Pat and Bernie moved to Arkansas and then Illinois, where Bernard died in 1993. Pat remained in Illinois until 2002 when she moved to Carroll. She was a faithful member of St. Lawrence Parish in Carroll. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and National Secretaries Association.
