Preston Lee Luft was born on Feb. 5, 1986, in Manning, to Earl and Gail (Weller) Luft of Westside. He was baptized into the Catholic faith that same spring at St. Ann Catholic Church.

Preston grew up in Westside and graduated from Ar-We-Va High School in 2005. He played football and basketball in school. As a teenager, he helped his dad work his hydraulic business. After graduation he ventured into a few different jobs and most recently returned to his dad’s shop to help run the business with his oldest sister. Preston enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

He entered into the world of racing cars with his friends, participating as a pit man, and after a time changed his hobby to competition raccoon hunting. Preston liked to watch sporting shows on TV and competition raccoon hunting on the computer. His love of the outdoors led him into the woods with his dog and many happy days with his friends working their hounds for the sport of treeing a raccoon. He was a member of United Kennel Club and Prohound Kennel Club. In 2011 he won second place at the competition raccoon hunt at the lodge near Marshalltown. It was this sport that took his life from a fall in the woods near Marshalltown.

Preston is survived by his parents, Earl and Gail; two sisters, Charlene and her children, Joshua, Emily, and Andrew; Lynnette and her husband, Tim, along with their children, Austin, Carson, Morgan and Mylie; his grandparents, Gordon; and Gladys; several aunts and uncles, cousins, and other family and friends.

Preston was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Leonard, and maternal grandmother, Genevieve.
