Millie was born on Oct. 23, 1921, in Mount Carmel, Iowa, to Matthew and Philomena (Rutten) Snyder. The family farmed in the area, and Millie helped with all farming chores. Her mother passed at an early age, and Millie helped with cooking, cleaning, and raising siblings.

Millie married Henry “Hank” Dion on Jan. 2, 1939, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll, Iowa. They raised three children: Darlene, Jerry and Roger. Millie was a housewife, and she worked for Dr. and Mrs. Paul Anneberg for many years. Together, Hank and Millie traveled to visit many states, Nebraska, Wyoming, Colorado, Minnesota, Texas, Florida and others.

They found they loved the game of golf and joined the Carroll Municipal Golf Course, golfing sometimes with friends in leagues and sometimes with family. Millie and Hank won several trophies, and Millie once had a hole-in-one. In later years, Millie enjoyed watching golf on television and listening to country music. She very much enjoyed visits by grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her 85th birthday was celebrated at Graham Park with many loved ones in attendance. She will be remembered for her kindness, her quiet sense of humor, and her insight into human nature.

Millie is survived by her children: Darlene (Dale) Hofbauer of Rochester, Minnesota, and Roger (Marlene) Dion of Grand Junction, Colorado; sister, Evelyn (John) Wheeler of Indiana; sister-in-law Ruth Ann Snyder of Carroll; grandchildren: Sharon (Jack) Neahring, Debra (Tom) Groll, Jeff Dion, Cheryl Lehman, Mark Dion, Brian Dion, Sara Dion and Patrick Dion; numerous great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and many caring nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Dion; son Jerry Dion; Jerry’s wife, Sheila; three brothers: Leonard Snyder, Rudell Snyder and Marvin Snyder; grandsons Michael Hofbauer, Randall Hofbauer and Steven Dion; and great-grandson Kyle Neahring.
