Martha L. Buelt, 78, of Carroll and formerly of Glidden, died Wednesday, April 2, 2013 at Carroll Health Center Nursing Home.

Mass of the Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 6, at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Glidden with Father Timothy Johnson as celebrant assisted by Deacon Gary Schon.

Lector will be Deacon Gary Schon. Gift bearers will be Cody and Ashley Buelt. Casket bearers will be Mark Polk, Andrew Buelt, Cody Buelt, Scott Young, Gary Williams, Brian Weber and Tom Weber.

In lieu of flowers and memorials, it was Martha's request that random acts of kindness be done in her memory.

Friends may call at Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden after 4:30 p.m. Friday. There will be Christian wake service at 6:30 p.m. followed by a rosary.

Born May 24, 1934, at Dedham, Iowa, she was a daughter of Frank P. and Mary (Mattes) Tigges. She grew up in Dedham and graduated from St. Angela's Academy in Carroll in 1952. She then attended Northwest Institute of Medical Technology in Minneapolis, Minn.

She married John Buelt on Nov. 11, 1957, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dedham. Martha worked as a lab technician at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll for many years.

She volunteered serving Meals on Wheels and with the Speak Up! Program at Glidden-Ralston School. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Seton Church in Glidden, the Ladies Guild and the church choir. Martha enjoyed going to dances with John, working at the lab, gardening and spending time with her family and friends.

Martha is survived by two sons: Brian Buelt and wife Doreen (Reiff) of Galesburg, Ill., and Clark Buelt and his wife Kim (Ploeger) of Cedar Rapids; three daughters: Karla Polk and her husband Mark of Eureka Springs, Ark., Andrea Williams and her husband Gary of Rock Island, Ill., and Shelly Young and her husband Scott of West Des Moines, Iowa; five grandchildren: Andrew, Ashley and Allison Buelt, Cody Buelt, and Brady Williams; one great-granddaughter Mackenzie Polk; three sisters: Marie Eischeid of Halbur, Annie Sloup of Omaha, Neb., and Susan Davis and her husband Dean of Glidden; a brother Raymond Tigges and his wife Edna of Cedar Rapids; five sisters-in-law: LouAnn Tigges of Carroll, Lenore Lodge and her husband James of Sioux City, Iowa, Elaine Buelt of Carroll, Iowa, Carol Riesenberg and her husband Lou of Moscow, Idaho, and Mary Johnson of Tucson, Ariz.; three brothers-in-law: Norman Buelt of Overland Park, Kan., Allan Buelt and his wife Barb of Omaha; and Ron Ensley of Great Bend, Kan.; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents; her husband John; sisters: Dorothy Pille, Alice Heithoff and Alverna Tigges; and brothers: Larry, Leander, Melvin, Felix, Victor and Franklin Tigges.
