She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia. After her schooling, Lorna moved to Jackson, Michigan, where she lived with her aunt and uncle and worked as a waitress in a café. The couple lived on the Knute family farm north of Glidden where they raised their four children and Lorna was very active in the farming operation. They moved into Glidden in 1988 and retired from farming in 1990. Lorna worked at Wal-Mart in retirement for 10 years as a greeter and later in the sewing department.

Lorna was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church in Glidden where she taught Sunday school and Bible school, and served as officer of the church guild and LWML. She was also very active with the church quilters. She was famous in Glidden for apple pie and for her vegetable soup at the annual Peace Lutheran Church soup supper. Lorna made all of her children’s clothing and a wedding ring quilt for each of her grandchildren.
