He was born April 1, 1959, in Carroll, a son of Vern and Phyllis (Wurr) Drees. He received his education at Lidderdale, Mount Carmel and Carroll Schools. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith at Holy Family Catholic Church in Lidderdale.

Kim was married to Joey Arkland from 1977 until 1984. Four daughters were born to this union. In 1984 he moved to Delaware and worked on dairy farms. The last 16 years he was self-employed as a dairy farm hoof trimmer.

Kim was known for his chuckle when he spoke, and he enjoyed the laughter of others. Riding a motorcycle was his freedom. His favorite foods were chocolate-chip cookies with a big glass of milk and steak on the grill. Even though he lived away from Carroll County, he was never far from his hometown in spirit. He always liked animals and pets, especially his St. Bernard, Billy. He looked forward to vacations in Iowa with family, especially with “his girls.” He enjoyed euchre games and camping. Always a farmer at heart, he watched the Weather Channel daily for both Delaware and Carroll.

In his spare time he liked to come back to Iowa to the farm where he was raised and help his Dad take apart, put together or fix things. He drove his RV from Delaware to spend his last summer on the family farm, which he called his “vacation of a lifetime.” Kim’s message was “everything works out in the end.”

He is survived by Dee, his wife of 11 years; four daughters: Karman (Brian) Brinkman of Fairmont, Minn., Kasey (Chad) Irlbeck of Carroll, Kendal Drees of Carroll and  Kari Drees of Lidderdale; six grand-daughters: Kally, Karly and Katy Brinkman, Kyra Irlbeck, Klaira Drees and Jazlyn Harkrider; his parents Vern and Phyllis Drees of Lidderdale; siblings: Kelly Drees (Kayla Winslow) of Holyoke, Colo., Kevin (Tracey) Drees of Norwalk, Iowa, KaLynn (Kelly) Wenck of Norwalk, Iowa, Kandace (Pat) Dunn of  Norwalk, Kurt (Tanya) Drees of Clovis, Calif.; three step-children: Leva Taylor of Greensboro, Md., Nicole DeMoss of Pasadena, Md., and Lil’ Ron DeMoss of Felton, Del.; and six step-grandchildren in Delaware.
