Born Jan. 4, 1944, in Wichita, Kansas, she was a daughter of Floyd and Elizabeth (Vanderloo) Gray.  Her family moved to Carroll when she was a baby.  Judy grew up in Carroll and graduated from Kuemper High School in 1962.  She was married to James Neil on May 25, 1963, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll.  The couple moved in 1969 to Glidden where they raised their four children.

Over the years, Judy worked at General Electric, Casey’s, Hy-Vee and Wal-Mart. Judy was an avid reader and was active in her community as a member of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church.  She enjoyed playing guitar and singing for church services and loved volunteering as a CCD teacher.  She was a Girl Scout leader for her children and then again for her grandchildren and always had more to give.  She was often seen around town on her many walks and adventures with her grandchildren.  Her kindness and generosity were almost endless and she always had a kind comment for everyone she met.

Judy is survived by her husband of 53 years, James Neil Sr., of Glidden; her four children and their spouses: Annette Storesund (Scott) of Des Moines, Janet Steigerwalt (George) of Raleigh, North Carolina, Karen Standley (Shane) of Glidden and James Neil Jr. (Amanda) of Carroll; 10 grandchildren: Steven Storesund, Jacob Steigerwalt, Amy Steigerwalt, Nile Dockter, Amara Standley, Madison Standley, Zachary Neil, Aidan Neil, Autumn Schwery and Tegan Schwery; one great-grandchild: Wesley Dockter; two sisters: Rosie Jensen of Carroll and Marlene Gray of Pomeroy; three brothers-in-law: John Neil (Betty) of Omaha, Joe Neil of Manning and George Neil (Joni) of Fort Collins, Colorado; a sister-in-law: Peggy Schulte (Gerald) Manning; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Charlie and his wife Helen; and her father- and mother-in-law George and Agnes Neil.
