Herman DeVries, 90, died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012 at his home.  

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, at Woodlawn Christian Church in Lake City with Pastor Frank Martin officiating and burial in the Cottonwood Cemetery, Lake City.  Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Lampe Funeral Home in Lake City.

Herman was born July 10, 1922, in Lake View, Iowa, to Edward and Octje (Huls) DeVries.  He served in the U.S. Army from 1943-1945 during World War II stationed in Germany. On Nov. 10, 1946, he married Dorothy Kral in Humboldt.  Herman worked as a farmer and had a passion for John Deere tractors. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Herman is survived by his son, Tom (Nancy) DeVries of Sac City; daughters, Linda Jackson of Jefferson, Linnette (Bob) Sondgeroth of Jefferson and Terri (Frank) Martin of Des Moines; 13 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; sister, Ella Williamson of Sigourney; brother, Lubbert (Irma) DeVries of Lake City; and sister-in-law, Doris DeVries of Lake City.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Octje DeVries; wife, Dorothy DeVries; brothers, Martin and John DeVries; sister, Octje Etta DeVries; brother-in-law, George Williamson; and sister-in-law, Dorothy DeVries.
