George Dozler, 69 of Carroll, died Thursday, July 19, 2012, at Taylor Hospice House in Des Moines, Iowa.

Mass of the Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 24, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll.  Celebrant will be Father Dale Reiff.  Con-celebrant and homilist will be Father Timothy Johnson.  Music will be by Marcy Anderson as pianist, Katie Kustra as song leader and the St. Lawrence Choir.  Lectors for the Mass will be Laura Monen and Jack Thein.  Gift bearers will be Bernie and Marguerite Wells.  Eucharistic ministers will be Clair and LouAnn Otto.  Casket bearers will be Dave Wells, Mike Wells, Dan Monen, Larry Feltner, Bill Snyder, Dick Henrich and Ray Kraus.  The Carroll Fire Department will form an honor guard.  Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Carroll with military honors conducted by the Carroll American Legion.

Friends may call at Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:30 p.m. Monday. There will be a rosary at 4 p.m. and a Christian wake service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will resume at 9 a.m. Tuesday at St. Lawrence Church.

Born Dec. 23, 1942, at Gray, Iowa, George Thomas was a son of George L. and Olive (Signall) Dozler.  He was enrolled in the Gray school system for one year, and in 1950 his family moved to Templeton, where he attended Sacred Heart School, later graduating from Kuemper Catholic High School in 1961.  Following his formal education George was employed by the Carroll County Maintenance Department and also served in the Army National Guard.  After his 43 years of service with the county, George retired.  He also served on the Carroll Fire Department from 1977–2002.  George was a member of St. Lawrence Parish in Carroll and was active as an usher. He enjoyed golfing, woodworking, working outdoors and fishing with his grandchildren.  George will be remembered by many as a great friend and someone who was always willing to lend a helping hand wherever needed.

Survivors include his wife Katie Dozler of Carroll; his children: Tom Dozler and fiancée Kathy Steeples and their children of Ankeny, Kathy Dozler and family friend Sherri Barton of Des Moines, and Jon Dozler and his girlfriend Angie Anderzhon of Des Moines; his stepdaughter, Holly (Justin) Hunter of Ankeny; his parents-in-law, Bernie and Marguerite Wells of Carroll; three grandchildren; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Mike (Karolyn) Wells of Altoona, Laura (Dan) Monen of Omaha, NE, Dave (Dawan) Wells of Portales, N.M., Eenie (Al) Bock of Carroll, Jennifer (David) Randolph of Council Bluffs, and Melissa (Marvin) Rosenthal of Omaha, Neb.; as well as other extended relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
