BETTY RUTH BLUM
Betty Ruth Blum, 84, of Wall Lake, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012, at Loring Hospital in Sac City.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 19, St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wall Lake.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today with a Christian wake service at 7:30 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will be at Wall Lake Cemetery in Wall Lake. Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Wall Lake is in charge of arrangements.
Betty was born July 16, 1928, to Floyd and Carrie (Simon) Cook at their rural home near Wall Lake. She was baptized and confirmed her faith at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wall Lake where she remained a lifetime member. Betty attended rural country school in Herring, Iowa, and graduated from Wall Lake High School in 1945.
On Aug. 1, 1949, Betty was married to William “Bill” Bennett Blum at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wall Lake by Father Daley. They were blessed with 11 children. She was a busy mother and grandmother who loved her family.
She enjoyed reading, cooking and following football and baseball games on television.
Survivors include her husband, Bill; her children: William Jess (Becky) Blum of Sioux City, Steven Blum of Wall Lake, Craig (Lynette) Blum of Wall Lake, Toni Pfrimmer of Wall Lake, Phil Blum of Hokah, Minn., Jerry (Patty) Blum of Burnsville, Minn., Chuck Blum of Wall Lake, Rex Blum of Denver, Colo., Joseph (Inger) Blum of Apple Valley, Minn., John Blum (Laurie Owens) of Council Bluffs and Mary Beth Lindner of Scottsdale, Ariz.; 28 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; her sister Midge Hawks of Sac City; her brother John (Velma) Cook of McCook Lake, S.D.; and many extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Mike, Roy, Harry, Bob, Cliff and Richard Cook; sisters Marian Jenkins, Flossie Biesch and Bernadine Kelly; and two grandchildren, Brandon Blum and Lacey Lindner.
