Annette M. Vanderheiden, 80, of Auburn and formerly of Carroll, died Friday, Sept. 20, 2013.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, at Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll with the Rev. Julie Schaal officiating.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. Monday at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home where there will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. Organist for the service will be Ellen Severin, and soloist will be John Wagner.

Casket bearers will be Annette's grandchildren.

Born July 15, 1933, in Jefferson, Iowa, she was the daughter of Anna Louise Barnes. She grew up in Carroll and graduated from Carroll High School in 1951. She was married to her high school sweetheart James Vanderheiden on April 6, 1952, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll by Father Victor Kolache.

Annette worked for J.C. Penney, Dr. Roland Morrison, Stockert Shoe Store, and Lou Walsh Motors. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Annette enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, fishing, community theater, walking, swimming, volunteering her time to help the needy, and basking in the warmth of the sun.

Annette is survived by her husband, James, of Auburn; three daughters: Teri Salmons and her husband Michael of Columbia, Md., Joni Tomka and her husband Edward of Carroll, and Maria Pankratz and her husband Todd of Milaca, Minn.; two sons: Rick Vanderheiden of Carroll and Tony Vanderheiden and his wife Amy of Pilot Mound, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Teresa Renze and her husband Cyril of Roselle, Iowa.

Annette was preceded in death by her mother, her grandfather, a grandson Christopher Salmons, and granddaughters Brittany Salmons and Liz Tomka.
